NOVEMBER NOTES
I have no clue when November passed by and what exactly happened. Everything is such a blur, which also means that I will add only few bits and pieces for this month’s notes. The old version of me would have been frustrated by not publishing this blog post at the proper time or not being able to write a more meaningful text. However, instead of beating myself up or giving up on this blog post, I am doing it now. Better late than never.
This is something I am actively working on, that we are all human and it’s not the end of the world if you slip and make a mistake. Trying to do everything perfect all the time is exhausting and not sustainable. So here I am, trying my best and showing up how I can.
MISC.
BOOKS: I guess the title of the book will pretty much give you a good idea how this book is, The Stable Boy of Auschwitz. Such a raw journey to follow and see how a young boy is slowly, but surely separated from his family. Then on his own, he has to figure out how to survive the ordeal of the Holocaust. Next to the dreadful scenarios, it was interesting to see the author’s story from the beginning until the very end: how he had a nice home and upbringing, the uncensored events that happened during World War II, how he was freed and, lastly, what came after the freedom.
The next book is a classic, To Kill a Mockingbird, which has been on my shelves for years before I actually picked it up. I had no expectations and only read a short description of the plot. I just wasn’t expecting to like it so much and to get so involved. The writing style and characters connected quickly and I needed to find out more, to see how things evolved. At the beginning, I was confused about remembering the names and their relationships and throughout the book there are some slower moments, but that can be easily overseen considering everything else in comparison. There is a second book, however after reading it’s background and a few reviews, I have decided to stop here and not spoil the experience.
MOVIES/SERIES: You might notice a theme going on with one exception right at the end. The spirit of Halloween followed into November as well as there were a few movies I wanted to see. Pulse (Kairo) is a Japanese horror movie andI might add that it is in my top favourites. There aren’t any jumpscares you would normally expect, however, the atmosphere, music and movements of the characters create such a disturbing and uncomfortable feeling. I much rather prefer this type of horror than the more cliche one.
Beau is Afraid is one of the weirdest movies I have ever seen. It can be categorised as horror, but it’s so much more than that. The story revolves around Beau, who has a few issues of his own and goes to a therapist in order to keep them under control. Everything starts to unfold as soon as Beau starts his journey to go home to visit his mother. It is quite a long movie so buckle up for a mind-boggling ride.
Coraline was a re-watch and it’s as good as I remember it. You wouldn’t expect for this to be as scary as it ends up being. Also, I am always left in awe when seeing animated stop motion movies. The level of detail, how everything moves and the craftsmanship for this type of movies is insane. The book it is based on is written by Neil Gaiman and it is the only one I enjoy from him.
The last movie I want to bring up has been a random, pleasant surprise. While looking for something interesting to watch on TV, I have stumbled upon Gentlemen prefer Blondes. It was my first movie with Marilyn Monroe and I loved it. I’ve always seen her only as sex symbol, but her acting in this movie has shown me a different side of her. Looking forward to watching more movies of her.
That’s a wrap for the month of November and we are back on track, ready for this year’s last blog post. Next to the usual things I touch on, in the December Notes I will share a new approach to the blog section of my website. A few changes that I will apply in order to make things more fun and sustainable for myself. See you in the next one ✨🌿
