- CASSETTE TAPE PROJECT -
VALENTINE’S DAY
This project came to life after seeing a few photographs of transparent cassette tapes that contained different flowers. I wanted to create a small series of illustrations depicting cassette tapes that contain a different season, plus two other special versions. One of the special version is Valentine’s Day with the theme of love.
The body of the cassette was kept simple, only black and white were used, in order to keep the transparency and to have the interior as a central point.
Next to the interior elements, the tape also plays an important role to show the time. In the illustration and the first frame of the short animation shows the tape in a certain position. As Valentine’s Day is celebrated at the beginning of the year, there will be more tape on the left side. This illustrates that the year is still at the beginning. In contrast, the winter cassette tape will have the tape in a mirrored position as the year has reached at the end.
After the illustration was finished, I thought that it would be fun to create a short, looping animation. It would be my first time ever creating an animation.
I went ahead to create the frames and then putting them together in order to create the animation. A few obstacles appeared along the way, which I did not anticipate. Nevertheless, I tried to find the best approach to solve this obstacles and get a nice result.
All in all, for a first animation, I am quite proud of the end result. I have learned a lot from this experience and will apply the lessons for future projects.
